Patriots’ Roofing is a GAF President’s Club and Master Elite contractor and an IBHS FORTIFIED certified installer serving Wilmington and New Hanover County with roof replacement, roof repair, hurricane and storm insurance claims, inspections, metal roofing, and commercial roofing. Those credentials matter here: Master Elite is the top 2% of roofers nationwide, and FORTIFIED certification lets us build the hurricane-tested roofs North Carolina’s coastal grant programs pay toward. We are family-owned, fifth-generation, and we work Eastern North Carolina every week of the year.

What the Cape Fear coast does to a roof

Wilmington’s weather resume is longer than most. Hurricane Florence came ashore at Wrightsville Beach in September 2018, stalled, dropped rain in feet rather than inches, and left the city cut off by floodwater for days. Hazel, Fran, and Isaias all made landfall within an hour’s drive of downtown. Between named storms the everyday climate keeps working: salt air rolls in off the ocean and up the river, summer thunderstorms arrive like clockwork, and the humidity never gives a shingle a dry week.

  • Hurricane wind. This is a coast where storms make landfall, not just brush past. We install wind-rated GAF systems with enhanced fastening and reinforced edges so the shingles stay attached when it counts.
  • Salt air. With the Atlantic on one side and the Cape Fear River on the other, Wilmington’s air corrodes exposed fasteners and bargain flashing years ahead of inland schedules. We spec corrosion-resistant metals and seal the details salt attacks first.
  • Humidity and algae. The dark streaks on so many north-facing slopes around town are algae feeding on damp shingles. Algae-resistant shingles and balanced attic ventilation slow that wear so the roof reaches its rated life.

A city of every roof era

Few North Carolina cities put more roof variety on one street grid. Downtown’s historic district is full of steep Victorian rooflines on older decking that demand careful tear-off and patient detail work. The mid-century neighborhoods, Sunset Park, Forest Hills, Pine Valley, carry brick ranches now on their second or third roof. The fast-growing corridors out toward Ogden, Porters Neck, and Monkey Junction are newer construction built under the modern coastal code. New Hanover County sits in the state’s wind-borne debris region, so a roof replacement here must meet stricter fastening and underlayment requirements than the same house inland. We build to that standard, whatever decade the house came from; if you are not sure where yours stands, start with a free roof inspection.

Hurricane claims, and the grant that builds back stronger

When a named storm finds your roof, the repair is only half the job; the claim is the other half. We document damage elevation by elevation, prepare a written scope your adjuster can work from, and stay in the conversation until the settlement matches the damage. See how storm damage and insurance claims work with us.

Wilmington homeowners re-roofing after a storm, or ahead of one, should look hard at FORTIFIED: a hurricane-tested standard with a sealed roof deck, stronger edges, and better-attached shingles. New Hanover County is one of the 18 counties in North Carolina’s Strengthen Your Coastal Roof program, which reimburses up to $6,000 toward a qualifying FORTIFIED roof for homeowners with an active NCIUA policy, and homes east of the Intracoastal Waterway (Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach) fall under the separate barrier-island program of up to $10,000. Since November 2025 only certified FORTIFIED contractors can install grant-qualifying roofs; Patriots’ Roofing holds that certification. Details are on our NC FORTIFIED roof grant page, with financing available on qualifying projects.

Questions

Wilmington Roofing FAQ

Do you serve Wilmington and the surrounding beach towns?

Yes. Patriots’ Roofing serves Wilmington and the Cape Fear region, including Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Castle Hayne, Ogden, Porters Neck, and Monkey Junction, plus Leland and Hampstead next door. Our crews cover the coast from our Eastern North Carolina office in Point Harbor, and we schedule the visit around you. Request a free estimate to get on the calendar.

Can you handle a hurricane insurance claim in Wilmington?

Yes. This region has been through it, Florence most recently, and we know what carriers need to see. We inspect and photograph the damage, prepare a written scope, and support you through the adjuster meeting so the settlement reflects what actually happened to the roof. Our storm damage and insurance claims page walks through the process.

Does Wilmington qualify for North Carolina’s FORTIFIED roof grant?

New Hanover County is one of the 18 coastal counties in the Strengthen Your Coastal Roof program, which reimburses up to $6,000 toward a qualifying FORTIFIED roof for homeowners with an active NCIUA (Coastal Property Insurance Pool) policy. Homes east of the Intracoastal Waterway, like Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, and Kure Beach, fall under the separate barrier-island program of up to $10,000. Funding is first-come, first-served, and since November 2025 the roof must be installed by a certified FORTIFIED contractor. Patriots’ Roofing holds that certification; see our NC FORTIFIED grant page.

Can you reroof a historic home in downtown Wilmington?

Yes. The historic district’s rooflines are steep, detailed, and often sitting on decking that predates modern code, so they need careful tear-off, honest deck evaluation, and patient flashing work rather than a rushed nail-over. We inspect first, tell you what the deck really looks like, and build a roof that fits the house.

Why does my Wilmington roof have black streaks?

Those streaks are algae, and the humid, salt-heavy air around the Cape Fear coast feeds it. Streaking alone is usually cosmetic, but on an older roof it often shows up alongside granule loss and worn shingles. A free inspection will tell you whether yours is a cleaning-and-monitoring situation or the start of a replacement conversation. When we replace, we install algae-resistant shingles.

What does the coastal wind code mean for my roof replacement?

New Hanover County sits in North Carolina’s wind-borne debris region, so a replacement here must meet stricter fastening and underlayment requirements than the same job inland. We build wind-rated GAF systems to those specifications, and qualifying Golden Pledge installs carry an unlimited wind rating.
