On the Outer Banks, an ordinary roof is a liability. Hurricanes, nor’easters, and sustained wind drive rain under shingles, and salt air corrodes anything not built for it. IBHS FORTIFIED is a stronger construction standard, developed by insurance-industry scientists, that keeps the roof on and the water out when the next storm comes.
As a certified FORTIFIED installer, we build to that standard: sealed roof decks, ring-shank nailing, and edge details proven on a hurricane test wall. It is also one of the few upgrades that can actually lower your wind insurance premium.

What is the best roof for a coastal home?
It depends on the home, but FORTIFIED asphalt shingle systems and standing-seam metal both perform well against coastal wind and salt air. We review the trade-offs, including insurance impact, so your roof fits your home and the climate.
